Working Group 2 - Multi-Scale Representation of Spatial Data, 2008-2012

Our mission:

Working Group II/2 aims at informing and activating people interested in education and training in the fields covered by ISPRS, especially colleagues working in educational institutions. We are focused on promoting the goals of the WG as expressed in its terms of reference by means of various activities and events and in co-operation with ISPRS, other national and international organisations and Geomatics-related firms.

Terms of Reference:

  • Generalization and data abstraction of vector, raster and surface data in both 2D and 3D
  • Semantic generalization of data models
  • Development of open standard services for generalization operations
  • Quality-based generalization: control and evaluation
  • Context interpretation: important structures in the data have to be interpreted before they can be generalized
  • Development of multiscale and multiple representation analysis tools to exploit the existing hierarchies and relationships especially in the context distributed data, e.g. in geosensor networks
  • Generalization of spatio-temporal information
  • Multiple representation modeling, storage and analysis of city models (e.g. CityGML)
  • Continuous generalization: incremental streaming of multi-scale data
