Research at the Institute of Cartography and Geoinformatics

Spatial data is required for 80% of all decisions. Today, such data is captured with a wide variety of sensors in a wide variety of qualities and resolutions. The availability of ever larger amounts of data requires automatic processing methods. For this purpose we carry out research projects in the field of data integration, data analysis, data mining and big data processing. Methods of machine learning revolutionize the previous approaches and possibilities. Furthermore, different forms of visual representation are needed to create an interface to human beings and thus to their understanding. With our research we want to improve the capabilities of automatic systems, but also make their behavior explainable - an essential prerequisite for full acceptance by humans.
