ShanghaiRanking Consultancy published the latest results of its global university rankings on 18 November 2025. Leibniz University Hannover is among the 500 strongest research universities worldwide.
The Faculty of Civil Engineering and Geodetic Science scored particularly well in the categories "World-Class Faculty", "Research Impact" and "International Collaboration". In addition to outstanding, frequently cited publications, this includes editorships at leading international journals and involvement in management positions at international professional associations.
The Academic Ranking of World Universities (ARWU) – the official title of the Shanghai Ranking – has been presenting the 1,000 strongest research universities worldwide every year since 2003. In 2009, the independent ShanghaiRanking Consultancy began to examine individual disciplines as well. Of more than 5,000 universities, over 1,900 universities from 96 countries are included in the "Global Ranking of Academic Subjects". In addition to "Civil Engineering", it includes 54 other disciplines from the fields of natural sciences, engineering, life sciences, medicine and social sciences.
In recent years, the Faculty of Civil Engineering and Geodetic Science has repeatedly achieved excellent results in other rankings, such as first place in Germany in the individual ranking "SDG 6 – Clean Water and Sanitation" of the current THE Impact Ranking.
