1957

Establishment of a Department of Topography and Cartography at the Geodetic Institute of the Technical University Hanover - Prof. Dr.-Ing. Viktor Heißler appointed as Associate Professor

 

1963

Conversion of the former department into an independent chair for topography - Prof. Dr.-Ing. Viktor Heißler becomes chair holder, Dipl.-Ing. Dieter Grothenn becomes scientific assistant at the chair

 

1967

After the death of Prof. Heißler in 1966, Prof. Dr.-Ing. Günter Hake is appointed full professor and becomes the new chair holder.

 

1973

The chair moves into the new rooms in the multi-purpose building Appelstraße 9a on the 6th floor.

 

1982

Chair of Topography and Cartography becomes Institute of Cartography (IfK) with Prof. Dr.-Ing. Günter Hake as Managing Director

 

1984

Prof. Dr.-Ing. Günter Hake retires and Dr.-Ing. Werner Lichtner becomes professor and Managing Director of the IfK

 

1989

Prof. Dr.-Ing. Werner Lichtner passes away and Prof. Dr. mult. Gottfried Koncny temporarily manages the IfK, the existing projects are managed together with Prof. Hake.

 

1991

Prof. Dr.-Ing. Dietmar Grünreich appointed as successor to Prof. Dr.-Ing. Werner Lichtner at the IfK

 

1999

Prof. Dr.-Ing. Dietmar Grünreich is appointed President of the Federal Office of Cartography and Geodesy (BKG)

 

2000

Prof. Dr.-Ing. habil. Monika Sester is appointed full professor at the IfK and successor to Prof. Dr.-Ing. Dietmar Grünreich

 

2000

The institute is renamed "Institute of Cartography and Geoinformatics"

 

2002

Dr.-Ing. Claus Brenner started leading a junior research group at the institute that was sponsored by the VW Foundation.

 

2003

Dr. rer. nat. Volker Paelke is appointed junior professor in the field of 3D visualization and augmented reality

 

2010

With the end of his junior professorship Dr. Volker Paelke leaves the Institute

 

2010

apl. Prof. Dr.-Ing. Claus Brenner is appointed an extraordinary professor

 

2017

Dr. rer. nat. Martin Werner is appointed junior professor in the field of Big Geospatial Data

 

2017

With the end of his junior professorship, Dr. rer. nat. Martin Werner leaves the Institute.

 

2018

Dr. rer. pol. Philipp Otto is appointed junior professor in the field of Big Geospatial Data
